Incorporating Pilates has been well recognised for its benefits the body and mind, and is widely used by physiotherapists, chiropractors and other health practitioners to improve the posture, strength, nervous system performance, flexibility and overall functioning of the human body. Other benefits include:
- Improved motor control and movement patterns
- Increased lung capacity and circulation through concentrated breathing
- Great stress management and relaxation
- Improved concentration and body awareness
- Improved balance and coordination
- Energy prevention through a balanced and toned body
It is quite common to have Pilates recommended as part of your rehabilitation program or even to use Pilates to improve athletic performance. The Pilates principles of centring, concentration, flow, precision, control and breathing work well to stabilise and lengthen your body, encouraging optimal body mechanics. Pilates can be done at any age or ability, making it possible for everyone to experience the amazing benefits that Pilates offers.
Our Pilates and group physio Classes
A number of classes are available every day for you to book into. Class time and availability can be seen on our schedule.
We typically run all classes in blocks of 10 over school terms and allow two weeks during the holidays for any make up sessions (providing you have cancelled prior to our 24-hour policy). Studio or equipment classes have up to four people in a class and mat classes have up to 10 people in a class.
This years timetable is available HERE
We offer two types of classes
Group Physio sessions are classes instructed by a physiotherapist which may include traditional Pilates excersises taught on the equiptment or on the floor. All exercises target your particular needs and requirements.
To join the Group Physio session, you are required to do a private initial consultation with one of our Physios so we can assess your injury or condition and create a rehabilitation plan that is most appropriate for you. The classes are 55 minutes in length.
Group Physio sessions are eligible for health fund rebates. Please check with your health fund to see if rebates apply for you.
Equipment based or Studio Pilates
Studio Pilates incorporates the traditional Pilates machines (including the Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, and Barrels). The equipment is generally spring loaded and is used to either assist you to move or to provide resistance depending on the goals of the exercise. In order to participate in the studio class at Healthy Innovations you are required to have an initial assessment conducted by one of our physiotherapists. This will allow a custom designed program to be developed which addresses your goals. This customisation ensures you get the most benefit out of the program.
Classes run for 55 minutes and are not eligible for health fund rebates.
What Should I Bring
You need to bring a pair of socks (non-slip are best), a towel and a bottle of water.
What do I wear?
Gym wear is best (ie. a pair of leggings or shorts and a t-shirt). Very loose clothing can get caught up in the springs. It is highly recommended that longer hair is tied back so it does not get caught in the equipment.
How long are the classes?
The Pilates Mat and studio classes are both 55 minutes in duration.
Do Health fund rebates apply?
Some Health funds do give a rebate for classes instructed by a physiotherapist. All of our classes are taught by certified physiotherapists so check your health fund to see if a rebate applies to you.
